Everyone needs a little madness in their life... "Monet Madness" that is! What is "Monet Madness" you ask? Well at Talin's Tropical Studio on any given day you can find a party, or "Monet Madness" going on. Recently, Hope Sargeant, of Delray Beach, hosted a party for seven of her friends on her 6th birthday. Each guest word a beret and an artist's smock as they painted ala Monet for two hours under the tutelage of artist Talin Lyman.

Talin Adds a Touch of Tropics to South Sea Rattan/Fairfax Space
AT THE MARKET - Artist Talin Lyman is bringing a touch of the tropics to the South Sea Rattan Collection/Fairfax Home Furnishings here.

Talin, as she is known professionally, is known for her oversized interior and exterior murals that dot South Florida. Here, she is painting her tropical designs on accent pillows for retailers that place big orders.She will be in the showroom of the International Home Furnishings Center, space H-744, through Sunday.

Anyone who drove down A1A in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea when Mack's Grove was still there got a chance to see Talin Lymna-Johnson;s colorful, 40 ft. tall, tropical mural. It was painted on the side of the fresh fruit and gift store where all Florida snowbirds stopped in the winter to ship a crate of fresh oranges to their friends and neighbors in the cold climes of New York and Boston.

When Talin Lyman (formerly Johnson) majored in art at college, she never pictured herself 40 feet in the air on a cherry picker painting a tropical mural on a building.

But as demand for her artwork increases, she frequently finds herself on scaffolding, she said.

The Hypoluxo resident, formerly of Delray Beach, while still working as a piano teacher, has a line of hand-painted furniture and colorful, tropical fabrics called Lyman Cottage, which was introduced to buyers at the furniture market in High Point, N.C., last fall.

"She's in a league all of her own," said Jim Cameron, sales manager for South Sea Rattan Collection/Fairfax Home in North Carolina.

Entering the Paradise Salon and Spa in Delray Beach, a cornucopia of art greets you - botanical murals, faux Portuguese fountain tiles, large floral prints on canvas and a palm leaf ceiling medallion. The style is eclectic, yet the theme remains truly tropical - all bright, all bold, all Talin Lyman. Whether it be from her garage studio or customer job sites, she has made it her life's work to create and does so under the umbrella of her company, Talin Tropic.

"I love tropical climates, foliage and themes. Even in historic paintings and frescos those elements are beautiful and exotic. Now it's popular, but that theme has always appealed to me," Lyman said.
